Environmental
Environmental sustainability on Salt Cay will be accomplished by creating an ultra-low density resort that respects and complements the beauty of the natural terrain by building the resort in and around the present vegetation. Key ecosystems have been identified as requiring protection and the aim is to preserve these and enhance their biodiversity with appropriate landscaping and by re-establishing native vegetation and trees that had been destroyed during the salt raking days. Salt Cay Devco is working with prominent environmental organizations and planning specialists like Audubon International, a company dedicated to sustainable development, to guarantee that the highest international environmental and sustainability standards are met.
Harnessing renewable sources of wind and solar energy to power the project is one of the principle goals of Salt Cay Devco, along with clear cut objectives to introduce water and waste management systems and utilize many eco-friendly developmental technology measures. We have estimated that only 1.8% of the land allocated to the development will be occupied by buildings, an additional 3% by infrastructure, leaving more than 95% of the land un-built and enhanced by the reintroduction of native vegetation and indigenous plants. This makes the Salt Cay Devco development proposal on Salt Cay one of the lowest density projects of any resort in the TCI and throughout the Caribbean. The sensitive scale and scope of the project will ensure full integration with the existing natural environment and uniquely blend with the existing community on Salt Cay.
