The Island of Salt Cay
Salt Cay is one of only 10 inhabited islands in a group of 40 islands and cays that make up the Turks and Caicos. The island has remained virtually unchanged from an era when the salt industry, dating back to the 17th century, dominated the economy for over 300 years.
Covering just 2.5 square miles, Salt Cay is scattered with historical sites and ruins from the salt raking days inciting the enthusiasm of historians, photographers and tourists alike who enjoy exploring these many attractions.
Seduced by the tropical climate, overseas visitors can relax on the pristine sandy beaches and snorkel and swim in the crystal clear water. From January through April many tourists visit the island to see the magnificent humpback whales which pass by the island en route to their mating grounds at the Silver Banks.
The friendly community makes Salt Cay a perfect tourist destination and a sleepy romantic paradise where everyone can get away from stressful lifestyles and take home a wealth of fond memories until their return.
