Landscape
Salt Cay is a beautiful island comprised of low-lying vegetation, sandy dunes, rocky headlands and pristine white sand beaches surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters. There are many salt water creeks with flourishing mangroves and fresh water ponds provide temporary homes for migratory and wading birds.
Herons and osprey are often seen gliding across the salinas as hummingbirds indulge in the sweet nectar from the indigenous flowering plants where they share their habitat with roaming cows, donkeys and a few shy iguanas. The salinas and saltpans that cover and shape most of the interior of the island have remained virtually untouched since they were created during the salt raking days and enhance the historic charm of Salt Cay.
